USA Women’s Épée team:
The journey from 8th in world rankings to World Champions.

Starting point.

When you have a group of high performing athletes, with great potential, do you automatically have a team? What if this group of athletes also competes against each other during competitions? What if two of the team are also siblings who train together, live together and travel together – does this create a team within a team and could this isolate other athletes? We were asked to work with the USA Women’s Épée team, who were seen as potential to achieve gold in Tokyo but who weren’t yet realizing their potential.

What we did.

We worked with the team and their coaches over a period of 6 months to help them understand themselves and each other better, particularly when they are under the pressure of competition.  This included aligning their individual goals with that of the team and agreeing how to support and challenge one another during the course of the season.

The result.
